UPU INDONESIA AND UCYP UNIVERITY MALAYSIA STRENGTHEN INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH COLLABORATION THROUGH THE MATCHING GRANT SCHEME
Medan, 02 February 2026 – Main Potential University (UPU) is further strengthening its position as a world-class research partner by establishing a strategic partnership with UCYP University, Malaysia. This collaboration is realized through two international research projects within the schemematching grant, which was officially stated in the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) today, Monday, 02 February 2026.
This historic signing was carried out directly by the two highest leaders of the institution, namely Prof. Dr. Rika Rosnelly, S.Kom., M.Kom, Chancellor of Main Potential University, and Prof. Dato' Dr. Muyhammad Fauzi bin Mohd Zain, Chancellor of UCYP University. This MoA is an important foundation and legal framework for long-term collaboration oriented towards innovation and global benefit.
This research collaboration focuses on topics that are relevant to future industrial and technological challenges, namely "Implementation of Deep Learning Algorithm on Identification of Seaweed Species and Classification of Palm Fruit Grades". This research is expected to provide artificial intelligence-based technological solutions for accurate identification of seaweed species and classification of oil palm fruit quality, which has a significant impact on the agricultural, biotechnology and natural resource-based industrial sectors in the Southeast Asia region.
The signing ceremony was solemn and witnessed by senior officials from both universities. Present included Associate Professor Dr. Tan Li Pin, Deputy Chancellor for Research and Innovation at UCYP University, and Mr. Edy Victor Haryanto, M.Kom, Head of the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) at Potential Main University. Also present were the leadership and other representatives from UCYP University, indicating the strong commitment of both parties in advancing this collaboration.
Through this partnership, UPU and UCYP University are committed to:
- Increasing the quality and quantity of international standard publications and collaborative research products.
- Expanding and strengthening global academic and research networks.
- Encourage the exchange of mobility for lecturers, researchers and even students in research activities.
- Develop innovations that can be commercialized and provide solutions for society.
With the start of this collaboration, Potential Main University is getting closer to its vision of becoming a superior research university and making a real contribution to the progress of science and technology at the global level.
